The Hazzards
Who they are
High school–honoring ukulele duo that memorializes the pitfalls and pratfalls of adolescence, sometimes with a back-up band, including a harp for extra angelic measure.
What they do
Ask Steve Martin if he likes them, and to please check the box marked yes, no or maybe; top European charts with their hilarious and cheeky hit “Gay Boyfriend”; reappropriate pleated skirts and kneesocks from Britney Spears; turn period into a verb.
Why we love them
The Hazzards are brazenly childish, occasionally earnest. They mix sugary personas with smart jokes. They prove cute can be funny.
The Hazzards’ album, Secrets, is available on iTunes. The band appears in TONY Approved Fri 7.
Seth Herzog
Who he is
Iconic stalwart of New York’s alternative scene, who gets a lot of use out of rip-away pants.
What he does
Hosts Sweet, arguably the most popular long-running, downtown night; holds title for bringing the Sundance Film Festival its first live comedy showcase; pulls his mom on stage for sublime exchanges; stars in “Zog’s Place,” a short documentary about his ridiculously small apartment in Koreatown; dances in a Wonder Woman costume—often.
Why we love him
He has few airs, which is what you’d expect from someone so infrequently in pants. He’s joked his way through every definition of alt. When we think of him, we think of him dancing.
Seth Herzog appears in TONY Approved Fri 7 and Sweet Tue 11.
