    Album review

    Karraskilla

“Su Merced El Pimp” (Biatch Corp)

The techno-loving Biatch Corp kids have made a name for themselves in the past few years by playing and promoting parties all over town, and if their new label’s debut release is any indication, the clubland experience has paid off. Utilizing a thick kick drum, tight tom-toms and a syncopated bassline to provide a subtly pumping underpinning for its minor-key melody, Corp member Karraskilla’s “Su Merced El Pimp” is almost spectral in nature, but the Perc’s Touch the Truck remix toughens it with a sandpaper snare and flanged effects. The Jussi-Pekka version, meanwhile, opts for a grander vibe, with epic chords swathed in blankets of echo while a swirl of arpeggiated, chiming synths floats above it all.
