This single from young Dutch gun Funkerman has been a big hit in European clubs for a while now, and it’s not hard to figure out why: Slickly produced and catchy as hell, it’s big-room vocal house that’s eager to please. Requiring little work (or, for that matter, attention) on the part of the listener, it’s basically a sugary version of the kind of thump-thump material that producers like Angel Moraes or David Morales used to toss off every few days. The Granite & Phunk Big Room Mix sharpens up the beats considerably while adding a buzzing electro-house bassline, but the cloying melody ensures that the main audience for “Speed Up” will be the WKTU crowd.
